An evening dress has to do more than photograph well. It has to sit comfortably through dinner, move without fuss on a dance floor and still look considered at the end of the night. Our evening collection is chosen with that in mind, in fabrics with enough weight to hold their shape, cut across Australian sizes 2 to 20.
The collection covers full-length gowns for black tie events, midi styles for semi-formal dinners and receptions, and softer cuts for engagement parties and milestone birthdays. Most styles can be bought or hired, so a dress for one evening does not have to live in your wardrobe afterwards.
Length follows the dress code. Black tie asks for floor length, while cocktail and semi-formal leave room for a midi. If the invitation is quiet on the subject, the venue and the hour of the event are the most reliable guide.
Fabric decides how the dress behaves. Satin and crepe hold a clean line and suit structured silhouettes. Sequins and beading carry their own weight, which is worth knowing if the evening is long or the room is warm. Necklines are simpler than they seem: a V or a wrap lengthens, a high neck or illusion panel gives coverage without heat, and a straight neckline suits shoulders you want to show.
Photographs cannot tell you how a dress feels when you sit down in it. Our showroom at 43a Hollywood St, Monterey runs by appointment, so the room and the stylist are yours for the session rather than shared with a queue.
Save the styles you are considering to your Fitting Room before you come and we will have them ready, along with similar cuts you may not have found online. Alterations are handled in-house, and most hems, straps and taking-in are finished within a week. Bring the shoes you intend to wear so the hem is measured at the right length.
